Echoes of the Future
The Technology of Tomorrow 🔮
Berlin, April 2023
The future isn’t a mystery; it’s a repetition. Two forces will define the next decade: Energy and AI. If you can hear the echo, you can front-run the roar.
History rhymes. The future doesn’t appear out of thin air — it echoes backward. The trends that will define 2030 are already whispering in 2023.
I am going to attempt to identify the two biggest technology trends of the next decade. Spoiler alert: I might be wrong. But if I’m right, the world is about to change faster than you can say “ChatGPT”
What is an Echo?
Imagine an echo not as sound bouncing off a wall, but as a signal rippling through time.
Technological breakthroughs that stand the test of time always go through a cycle. They start as whispers in a lab. They swell into a buzz in the industry. And finally, they become a roar that drowns out everything else.
Concepts that lack substance (like 3D TVs or Juicero) fade into silence. But true revolutions echo louder every year.
Two forces are converging: Energy Independence and Intelligence on Tap.
Trend #1: Intelligence on Tap (AI)
Remember the early 2020s? We were obsessed with Blockchain. It promised a decentralized revolution. Instead, we got pictures of bored monkeys selling for millions.
I’m not dismissing crypto entirely. But let’s be honest: AI stole the thunder.
Artificial Intelligence has stepped into the spotlight as the true catalyst for change. From virtual assistants to autonomous vehicles, the impact is tangible.
Think of AI like the new electricity. In the past, intelligence was scarce. You had to hire a human, train them, and pay them a salary. In the future, intelligence will be a utility. You will plug into the wall and draw down as much IQ as you need, whenever you need it. Intelligence as a Service.
This isn’t just a cool tool; it is a platform shift as big as the Internet itself.
Trend #2: Unlocking Abundance (Energy)
While Silicon Valley obsesses over code, the physical world is facing a crisis. Reliance on finite, politically volatile energy sources (looking at you, Russia) has exposed the world’s vulnerability.
Enter Clean Energy.
Solar panels gleaming in the sun. Wind turbines harnessing the horizon. This isn’t just about “saving the planet” (though that’s nice). It is about national security.
By embracing renewable energy, nations can control their own destiny. They stop funding their enemies. They secure their economies. It is a revolutionary investment that propels us into a future where energy is cheap, abundant, and local.
The Challenge: The sun doesn’t always shine. The Solution: Batteries. The next decade will be defined by energy storage. Giant reservoirs that stabilize the grid and store the sun for a rainy day.
When you combine AI (efficiency) with Renewables (abundance), you get a world where the cost of living drops and the quality of life skyrockets.
Riding the Wave
Let’s run a thought experiment:
What if you had invested in Microsoft at the dawn of the PC? What if you had invested in Amazon during the dawn of the Internet? What if you had invested in Apple before the iPhone?
You wouldn’t just be rich; you would be legendary.
So, where is the Alpha today?
My thesis is simple: Identify the secular tailwinds and let them carry you.
Clean Energy represents an extraordinary opportunity for industrial growth. Companies solving the “Storage Problem” will become the new Oil Barons.
AI is advancing at a breakneck pace. Companies building the “Brain” of the future will become the new Google.
Irony Alert: We used to think blue-collar jobs would be automated first. Turns out, a carpenter has more job security than a copywriter. The robots are coming for the poets before they come for the plumbers.
The future is calling with two frequencies: Lightning and Logic. Energy and AI.
We can’t predict the specific winners (will it be Tesla? NVIDIA? A company that doesn’t exist yet?). But we can predict the direction.
The future is uncertain, but it holds the potential for abundance. Armed with knowledge, foresight, and a bold approach, we can surf the wave instead of drowning in it.
The echoes are getting louder. You just have to listen. ⚡️🤖

Loved this one.
I hope you invested a few thousand € in NVIDIA when you wrote this.
